Neurology services strive for excellence, but a large part of their effectiveness depends on the quality of the tools they rely on. EEG, despite being one of the primary diagnostic tools, is outdated and full of limitations—adding uncertainty even for the best clinicians. In fact, research shows that 70% of routine EEGs provide limited or no useful data, and 30% of epilepsy cases are misdiagnosed. The consequences are high, leading to unnecessary tests and delays in care.
The diagnosis gap: EEG falls short
Today’s EEG technology often falls short. The result? Missed diagnoses, longer waits, and increased patient frustration. As many as 1 in 3 epilepsy cases are incorrectly diagnosed, complicating treatment plans and adding to healthcare burdens. Delays are inevitable: in the UK, it can take over a year to diagnose epilepsy, while conditions like non-epileptic attack disorder can take up to 7 years. Meanwhile, the average waiting time for EEGs in NHS centers is far beyond the recommended two-week target.​
