We’re delighted to announce that our Scientific Director – Dr Wessel Woldman – has recently secured a prestigious Emerging Leader Fellowship from Epilepsy Research UK . Epilepsy Research UK is the UK’s only charity devoted exclusively to funding research into epilepsy.
The four-year award entitled “Quantifying the effect of drugs and surgery using non-invasive recordings and computational modelling” will enable Wessel to address critical questions for people with epilepsy including, ‘will my drugs work?’ and, ‘is surgery the right choice for me?’
Following the announcement, Maxine Smeaton, CEO of Epilepsy Research UK, said, “ERUK recognises that innovation in epilepsy treatment and prevention involves much more than lab-based research. We are therefore delighted to award Dr Woldman the ERUK Emerging Leader Fellowship Award. Dr Woldman’s research, using computational modelling to identify markers for how people with epilepsy respond to treatment, has the potential to revolutionise decision-making in the clinic.”
Wessel will collaborate with some of the world’s best neurology centres, including St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Professors Mark Cook and Wendyl D’Souza.
The award of the Fellowship follows the recent publication of pioneering research led by Wessel that could further advance diagnosis of epilepsy. Further information, including a short video, about Wessel’s award is detailed on the ERUK website.
