Neuronostics awarded £500k Innovate UK BioMedical Catalyst award to develop BioEP for prognosis

Posted

News of our Innovate UK funding as part of the Biomedical Catalyst award is now public!

The £500K award will support the ECLIPSE trial: a multi-centre, observational study exploring how changes in the BioEP score relates to treatment response.

It is very hard to know whether anti-seizure medications are truly effective. At present we typically wait to see if people continue to have seizures and, if they do, adjust their treatment with the hope that they abate.

This lack of certainty presents major challenges for both the treating clinician and the person with epilepsy alike. Our aim is to reduce the uncertainty by providing an objective measure of treatment response – the BioEP score.

We will collaborate with hospitals across the UK to understand how the BioEP score changes over time following treatment for people with newly diagnosed epilepsy. Preliminary studies in people already on treatment have shown promising results, where we found the BioEP score decreases when treatments are effective.

We are currently awaiting REC approval and anticipate beginning recruitment in the coming months. We look forward to the insights this study will bring as we seek to create a world first quantitative marker of treatment response for people with epilepsy.

Stay tuned for more updates.
